What is Neck Lift ?
A person’s age not only shows on their face but also in the appearance of their neck. Longitudinal wrinkles, horizontal folds, a double chin, and general skin laxity on the neck can make a person look older than their actual age. As a result of age-related changes in the subcutaneous muscles of the neck, the oval of the face also changes, causing the skin in the lower jaw area to sag and a double chin to form.
Neck lift surgery is mainly recommended for people who want to eliminate sagging in the neck due to age or significant weight loss. This cosmetic surgery tightens the neck skin, neck muscles, and the tissues under the skin, and removes excess, sagging skin to reshape the neck for a smoother, firmer, and younger appearance. It is a popular option for people who want to achieve a more youthful look.
Procedure types
Full Neck Lift
Full Neck Lift
The full neck lift is perfect for people who have moderate to advanced signs of aging showing on their necks.
A neck lift incision usually starts vertically in front of your ear and extends around your earlobe, and then upward and backward along your hairline. Your surgeon will pull the subcutaneous tissue and fix it higher up to flatten the neck bands and give your neck a tight look. Any excess skin is then removed and the incisions are closed.
Mini Neck Lift
A mini neck lift, also known as submental platysmaplasty or single-incision neck lift, is an excellent option for women and men who have isolated issues with their necks. Candidates for a mini-neck lift typically have a small double chin, mild signs of aging, excess fat, and minimal skin sagging. Patients with advanced aging signs and excessive skin may require a full neck lift or facelift. Compared to a full neck lift, the mini neck lift is less invasive. The procedure involves making a single incision beneath the chin, through which the surgeon will lift and suture the platysma muscle and deeper layers. During the single-incision neck lift, no skin is removed, and the skin is left to redistribute itself.
In addition to the type of neck lift, procedures such as liposuction, dermal fillers, and skin rejuvenation therapies are frequently combined to achieve the best possible cosmetic results.

What to expect?
During your consultation, you will discuss with your surgeon what you are looking to achieve. They will talk you through every aspect of the procedure and perform a medical assessment. You will also discuss your medical history. Your surgeon will examine your neck and take photos for medical records. In preparation for a neck lift surgery, you may be asked to undergo lab testing or a medical evaluation, take certain medications, or adjust your current medications. It’s important to avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding during the procedure.
During a neck lift surgery, the surgeon will typically make incisions behind each ear and under the chin, and sometimes around the front of the earlobe. The skin, muscles, and underlying tissues will be tightened and lifted to create a smoother appearance, and the incisions will be closed with sutures. Depending on the type of sutures used, they may need to be removed after about a week. These incisions are usually discreetly hidden within the natural contours of the ear. Your surgeon will discuss the specific details of the procedure with you.
The initial recovery period usually takes around 2 weeks. In the first few days, you will feel some tenderness. Any bruising and swelling will be at their worst around day 2. After 5-10 days, your surgeon will remove the sutures. After you get the all-clear, you can expect to resume rigorous activity in 4 weeks. Most patients see the final results in 3 months, but you will continue to heal for 6 months following your procedure.
