What is Teeth whitening ?
Teeth whitening is the process of removing stains and discoloration from teeth and improving their color through a bleaching process to make them look “whiter”.
There are several reasons why you might choose to get your teeth whitened. Everyone’s teeth are different, and just as our hair and skin color vary, so do our teeth. Very few people have naturally brilliant white teeth, and our teeth can also become more discolored as we age. Surface stains on teeth can be caused by food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, and blackcurrant. Smoking can also stain teeth, and calculus or tartar buildup can affect their color. Some people may have staining under the surface, which can be caused by certain antibiotics or tiny cracks in the teeth that trap stains.
We offer both conventional and laser tooth whitening (Bio White). During laser tooth whitening, the dentist applies a gel to your teeth and then uses a laser light to activate the crystals in the gel. A rubber dam is placed over your gums to protect them during the procedure. Laser whitening treatment typically takes around 60 to 90 minutes.
There are different methods for whitening teeth. The first is professional bleaching (laser bleaching) performed by a dentist, and the other is a home bleaching system that can be applied according to your doctor’s advice.

Laser Teeth Whitening
Laser Teeth Whitening
This procedure requires mostly one office visit and usually takes about one hour. The dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect your gums. Teeth whitening bleach is then applied to the teeth. Then the dentist will use a blue light or laser to activate the photoactive agents in the chemical (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). The light speeds up the reaction of the whitening product and the color change can be achieved more quickly.
Teeth Whitening at Home
Home teeth whitening can be done with the guidance of a dentist, who will create custom upper and lower teeth whitening trays based on molds of your teeth. After applying the whitening gel, the trays are worn for a specified amount of time determined by the dentist. This method can also be combined with laser teeth whitening for optimal results.

Zoom teeth whitening
Zoom teeth whitening
One product on the market is called Zoom, manufactured by Philips. This procedure involves a whitening substance that contains hydrogen peroxide. The quickest and most effective treatment also includes the application of LED light during the procedure to brighten your teeth.
The Zoom WhiteSpeed treatment can make your teeth noticeably brighter after a 45-minute process at your dentist’s office. It involves both a whitening gel and an LED lamp.
The Zoom QuickPro treatment only takes 10 minutes at the dentist’s office. It relies on just a whitening substance that sits on your teeth for 30 minutes.
At-home options utilize trays filled with whitening gel that can whiten your teeth in 2 weeks. You’ll want to make sure your teeth are clean for the procedures, so be mindful of the food and drinks you consume before. Your dentist may also recommend limiting your food and drink intake immediately following the procedure.
What to expect
This procedure does not require much preparation. However, you will need to have a discussion with your dentist about pre- and post-operative instructions. You may also be required to:
- Ensure that your teeth are clean before the teeth whitening procedure.
- Inform your dentist about your medical history.
The teeth whitening procedure usually takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the condition of your teeth. Dentists use the latest technology for teeth whitening procedures. The process involves the following steps:
- Your dentist will thoroughly clean your teeth to remove any debris and tartar.
- The shade (color) of your teeth will be recorded by your dentist.
- To protect your gums from the whitening/bleaching material, your dentist will place a rubber shield or gel on your gums.
- Your dentist will then apply the whitening/bleaching compound to the surface of your teeth, which will be activated using a laser light. This process will be repeated two more times.
- Finally, your dentist will rinse your teeth, remove the protection from your gums, and compare the results of the whitening with the previous shade of your teeth.
This is an easy dental procedure that is generally painless and does not require anesthesia.
After dental whitening, most patients experience temporary sensitivity, which typically lasts for 1-3 days. During this time, it is best to avoid extreme temperatures. Additionally, patients should follow a diet list, avoiding any foods or drinks that may cause staining. The teeth will be very sensitive for the first 3 days, and it is recommended to take care of them for 7 to 10 days.
For the first week after the procedure, patients should avoid smoking and consuming dark-colored foods such as tea, coffee, chocolate, red wine, sour cherry, caramel, and tomato paste. Otherwise, the achieved whiteness may fade. Using whitening toothpaste after the bleaching process can help to extend the whitening effect, but abrasive toothpaste or powders should be avoided.
Patients who brush their teeth at least twice a day, have regular dental check-ups every 6 months, and avoid tobacco and excessive tea consumption can expect the effects of the procedure to last for a long time. Home bleaching may be necessary every 2-3 years to supplement the treatment. Patients who do not follow these guidelines may experience staining again, and re-bleaching may be necessary.

Frequently asked questions
This procedure enables you to have whiter and brighter teeth. However, in due course, decolourization may start. Therefore, we advise our patients to have teeth whitening every 6 months.
No. It is a safe outpatient procedure with no need for anesthesia because the procedure is not painful.
Smoking, consuming products that leave stains such as coffee, wine, tea may result in decolorization of teeth. We advise you not to consume these products for 2 days after the procedure.
Just like aggressive brushing of your teeth, abuse of any kind can be damaging. However, if used as instructed, professional teeth whitening is incredibly safe. The whitening process uses active ingredients to temporarily open pores in your teeth and lift stains. After each whitening session, your teeth naturally remineralize and rehydrate.
All permanent bleaching methods work on natural tooth structure. This means that porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges or fillings do not turn white. All of this may need to change to match the color of your new whitened tooth.
